Our state-of-the-art facilities include consulting rooms and treatment rooms, and we are equipped with an optical coherence tomography (OCT) system for detailed imaging of the retina.
Patients requiring day surgery admission are accommodated at Vision Day Surgery Chatswood.
Our ophthalmologists diagnose and treat a range of eye conditions, some of these are described below. If you have questions during your consultation, one of our friendly orthoptists will be very happy to answer these for you. It is important to us that you understand your condition and treatment plan so you can make an informed decision about your eye care.
During cataract surgery, the cloudy lens of the eye is replaced with an artificial one. Traditionally, the entire operation was performed manually, but now surgeons can use laser technology to perform some of the steps. Our cataract surgeons were some of the first surgeons in Australia to perform laser cataract surgery, and are highly experienced in both techniques. There are a variety of replacement lens options available, and your doctor will help you decide on the lens type that best suits your vision and lifestyle needs. Cataract surgery is a day surgery procedure.
Our retinal specialists diagnose and treat all retinal conditions, including age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy and epiretinal membrane. You will be given eye drops to dilate your pupil so that we can properly examine your retina, which is at the back of the eye. Please note that these eye drops will blur your vision and increase glare sensitivity for 4 to 6 hours, so you will not be able to drive yourself home from your appointment.
We use eye injections, laser therapy and surgery to treat retinal conditions. Treatment may be performed on the same day as your consultation, depending on the level of urgency. Laser therapy for retinal conditions is performed in the consultation room, and involves little or no discomfort. Retinal surgery requires a local anaesthetic, and is performed in the day surgery.
Glaucoma is a common condition that can gradually lead to irreversible sight loss, but there are a number of treatment options that can stop or slow progression. Most glaucoma patients can use medicated eye drops to manage their condition. Sometimes further treatment is needed to reduce eye pressure, such as laser therapy or surgery.
Laser procedures for glaucoma (e.g. selective laser trabeculoplasty and laser peripheral iridotomy) are quick and painless, and are performed in the consultation room. Surgical procedures (e.g. filtration surgery) require a local anaesthetic, and are performed in a day surgery.
